Cuz I found one. A Mitsubishi Précis
Gotta love 80s blue interiors
I’d never heard of this before but apparently it’s actually a re-badged first gen Hyundai Excel. Précis is just one of its many names

I had one of these when they were new, decent car but mine was evidently programmed for multi system shutdown at about 120K, one day the dif started making noise, few days later it gave up luckily at low speed, i managed to rock it back and forth and nurse it onto a trailer. started it up to drive off trailer and engine had meltdown and locked up, less than a week went from driving great to dead lump. also these were carburated and had a heater to keep it from icing on cold days, mine started slowly decelerating and i had to si t for 5 min before it would drive again, by the time i found out what was going on it had the meltdown

No...and certainly not an off badge 1st gen Hyundai Excel. They were pretty ordinary when they were new.
Amazingly cheap though. When Alan Bond (the bloke who bankrolled Oz winning the Americas Cup way back in the 80s) started bringing them into Oz way back then, many people though he was nuts. However, a new car for 8 grand when interest rates were at nearly 20% was not without merit at the time.
People also forget that these had licenced Mitsubishi derived drivelines then too...oh how times have... actually... not really changed that much.

There should be a summary somewhere.

Whoa! That's in my neck of the woods. How the hell did that thing survive around here?

That star was for the first half of your comment. Not the second!

I can’t imagine that it survived here. Seems impossible. Early Hyundais rusted to shit fast. I’d bet it was imported from the western US not long ago.

Bonus points for listing it as automatic when I can clearly see a manual shifter.
These weren’t good cars, but at least it’s cheap.

As a 2009 Accent hatch owner that has served me very well that I quite like, I feel it is my duty to want it! :P

I know, these were usually rot boxes within five years. I have a theory though. It could have been owned by a snow bird, and only driven here in the warm months.

That’s a good possibility too. No way it spent time on the roads in winter here.

No, definitely not.
And if whoever buys it is dumb enough to start driving it in the winter, it’ll evaporate within three years.

When these were new, a friend’s mom had one. I don’t recall it being any worse than a period econobox at a similar price point (these far undercut a Civrolla spec for spec ). I named it the “Zero” after the kamikaze plane, something my friend thought was amusing. It replaced an Escort, and sometime around 1993 was hit, and was replaced by another Escort.

I don’t worry if a car is crap or not...interior materials, horsepower, etc. I like them to be reliable and basic, so an old Excel would fit that bill....I also like the idea of Radwood-style stuff, so this would be perfect :P
